This could be the case for churches such as Abreha-we-Atsbeha (below) and Thermos Munro (the paintings in these churches probably date from a later period). According to local oral traditions, a few iron crosses date to the Assume or Post-Aksumite periods, but the absence of reliable dating methods and the fact that such crosses were produced at least until the sixteenth century, makes it extremely difficult to verify these claims.
