The Boards of Governors of the African Development Bank (AfDB) and of the African Development Fund (ADF) declared the arrival of the AfDB to its home office in Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire, during the Bank's Annual Meetings held in Marrakech (Morocco) from 27th to 31st May 2013.

This choice follows the endorsement of the guide arranged by the Bank's administration for the arrival of the foundation to Côte d'Ivoire.

As per an announcement from the Bank, the Board of Directors of the AfDB Group had trained its administration during the Annual Meetings held in Arusha, Tanzania, in 2012 to set up a guide for an all-around arranged and sorted out the return of the Bank to its base camp. It said the guide should ensure the establishment's steadiness, business congruity, and the prosperity of staff and their families.

Consenting to the guide, the AfDB's Advisory Committee of Governors, meeting in Tokyo, Japan, in October 2012, suggested its endorsement by the Board of Governors, in this manner opening the route for the arrival to Abidjan.

As indicated by the President of the AfDB, Donald Kaberuka, "the primary gathering of staff will leave before the finish of 2013. The AfDB will commend its 50th commemoration in November 2014 in Abidjan".

The AfDB moved to Tunis, Tunisia when the 2002 common war broke out in Côte d'Ivoire. The war finished in 2007.
